The Easily-hurt Man

A man riding a bicycle got pushed gently off his bicycle by a vehicle but seemed ok apart from some abrasions. As luck would have it, there was a passing police car. He insisted on making a police report, calling the ambulance and lied to the paramedic about having fainted before, despite being engaged in a conversation with the police officer all the while. The paramedic whispered that she detested trouble-makers like him the most. Fearing for his life, he boarded the ambulance and went to hospital.

2 years 7 mths later, his lawyer sent a letter claiming compensation. He sustained the following injuries from the accident, claiming $2000 for each of the 3 points.

• Abrasions over left parietal region and the right elbow and right ankle


• Small hematoma over the right parietal region


• Bruises and abrasions over right hip

The poor guy is also claiming for:

• medical expenses that are still ongoing (OMG his bruises are still around after almost 3 years!!)


• bicycle repair ($25 only, probably proportionate to the extent of his injuries)


• medical report fees


• transportation fees (2 x $30 = $60. So ex! Wonder if he took limo taxi. Don't think he can take ambulance twice)


• and some other stuff

All these added up to over $10,000.

Now the professionals from the insurance will take over from here. I pity him. Not only will he not get a single cent, he will waste his lawyer's fees, money spent to put together this claim, the trouble he went through etc, as well as missing out on the free brand-new bicycle and perhaps some cash if he had opted for the on-the-spot settlement.
